The authors present the results of the analyses undertaken on some Koson type coins from the old collections of the Coin Room of the Library of the Romanian Academy and from the Tārsa-Luncani hoard, kept in the collections of the National History Museum of Romania. The energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method was used. There were analyzed Koson type coins with an intricate monogram from the Tārsa-Luncani hoard, Koson type coins with a less elaborate monogram and without monogram from the collection the Archaeological Institute "Vasile Pārvan" in Bucharest and from the collection Coin Room of the Library of the Romanian Academy.

The Koson type coins' composition was compared with those of some others gold Greek and Roman coins issued between 4th -1st century B. C. With this purpose was analyzed a group of gold staters struck under Philip II, Alexander III and Lysimachus types kept in the collection of the Archaeological Institute "Vasile Pārvan" in Bucharest. To these were added two rare coins kept in the Romanian Academy Library collection: a Lysimachus type "tetrastater" from the medieval hoard found at Baia Mare and a stater struck at Olbia, for the Scythian king Pharzoius.

In the same time, are presented the results of the XRF analysis made on two silver Koson type coins. On the basis of the obtained results are discussed different hypothesis regarding the origin of the gold and the minting place for this Koson type coins.
